Citi's camp
highlight is hiking, where she can run free in the Tahoe Wilderness with
other dogs. It is a time when she can experience being everything
a dog should be. The joy on her face is heartwarming. She is
never happier than she is at CampW.
For Pete,
lure coursing is the highlight of camp. It is the one
activity that she truly loves. Her inhibitions dissolve when there
is a "bunny" to be chased. Even though she only has the
opportunity once a year, she knows when we are about to arrive at CampW
. Pete's excitement alone makes CampW a must each summer.
CampW would
not be complete without a side trip to the Bog, an ancient lake that is
evolving to land. This must be experienced to appreciate.
For the dogs it is pure heaven. For humans it is "WOW." Take
off your shoes, roll up your pant legs and walk across the wet grassy
surface that responds similarly to trying to walk on a huge water bed.
Dogs and people are tired, wet, and exhilarated from the adventure.
During each
camp session, there is a Native American blessing of the animals.
It is one of my favorite camp moments. It is a time to pause and
reflect on how fortunate we are to share life with our special animals and
friends and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
Like many of
the campers, we returned each summer. It is hard to explain the
affinity campers have for CampW. One must have the experience to
understand.
